Tom Domestic Shorthair Young Male in Virginia Beach, Virginia

My story
Sylvie and Tom are a very special pair who need a very special adopter! These young "cattens" are siblings and best friends who have relied on each other for comfort and friendship over the past 6 months while we figured out their medical needs and the best way to manage their Megaesophagus. Sylvie is the smaller of the siblings, weighing in at just under 6 lbs, which is a huge accomplishment for her! She has had more crises with her Megaesophagus than Tom, but has been stable for the past 5 months. She gains weight slowly, and may always be petite for her age. She is a happy, playful and friendly girl and her diagnosis does not slow her down! She just requires extra love and attention to make sure that she stays healthy. Sylvie is such a sweetheart who loves attention, pets, and playing! We work really hard to give meds and food a special way to support her and make sure she gets enough calories. Sylvie vomits more frequently than Tom, and every couple of days it becomes more frequent, but then it calms back down. Tom is the funniest, quirkiest fellow! He loves his spring toys and will run around with them for hours. He loves attention and will plop on the floor for pets, or reach up to be held. He parkours around the house and is very talkative! Tom’s Megaesophagus presents more as a stuffy nose or loud breathing. He rarely, if ever, vomits. He does, however, vomit up fur because his esophagus does not form hair balls like normal. Occasionally, he requires an anti-inflammatory medicine to help with inflammation in his nose and throat from the Mega E. They need an adopter who is willing to manage their medication schedule and ensure that they see a vet quickly if they exhibit any symptoms of pneumonia. They may not live very long lives, but they have shown that with proper care and management of their symptoms, they can be happy and healthy! They're truly worth every minute you get to spend with them! These kittens have been the greatest joy for their foster parents to raise and take care of, but they deserve a home all of their own. They've been around a toddler occasionally, and haven't had experience with many dogs. The household cats in their foster home have not enjoyed Tom, but they did not mind Sylvie. They will likely do best in a home without other animals so that they don’t have access to the other animals’ food or water, which can hinder their treatment and functioning of their medications. Their schedule can be cumbersome at times, so an adopter with a flexible schedule or other household members to help might be best so no one gets overwhelmed. Their foster parents love them so much, so they'd prefer an adopter who's willing to keep them updated, and even use them as cat sitters when a respite is needed. They've dedicated 9 months to their care and are very attached to them, but know they deserve a forever home of their own! Please see our rescue information for our adoption fees or email us at billythekiddenrescue@gmail.com.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tom, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
